On March 9-11, 2006, more than 200 physicians and industry representatives met in Scottsdale, Arizona to develop, discuss and debate the topic of Natural Orifice Translumenal Endoscopic Surgery (NOTES).

The International Conference on NOTES® brought together teams of experts in flexible interventional endoscopy and laparoscopic surgery from around the world to explore and set a course of action to resolve the challenges involved in bringing transgastric endotherapy into the clinical realm.  The meeting addressed the current “state-of-the-art” presented by experts actively participating in the development of this new technique.

Meeting participants (including industry) divided into Working Groups and followed a set format to develop primary pathways to overcome the perceived clinical barriers that need to be surmounted.  The entire group reconvened to summarize and debate the Working Group reports and set recommendations for research and next steps.
